Opening Hours:
Office hours, by appointment with the Archaeology Officer.
Visitor Facilities:
Use of computer terminal, with guidance on using the UAD; photocopying and printing; a library of “grey” literature.
Range of information available:
Detailed summaries of archaeological work on buried remains and historic buildings within central Exeter, and other relevant information (including antiquarian references, published sources, museum accessions); GIS map based period reconstructions; digital reference library of historic images; all available on computer. Also paper reference copies of limited circulation “grey” literature. Advice on where to find other published sources, historic maps etc.
Please note:
1. Although the UAD is open to public consultation, appointments must be made in advance, with reasonable notice, with the Archaeology Officer.
2. Planning Services have a standard set of charges for photocopying and printing; these can be waived for non-commercial users. No fee is currently charged for commercial consultations.
3. The UAD covers central Exeter only; the records for the rest of the city district outside it are currently held and maintained by the Devon County HER, although the Archaeology Officer provides planning advice throughout the district.
