The Wolverhampton and Walsall Historic Environment Record is the definitive source of information on the historic environment of the Wolverhampton and Walsall Local Authority Areas. The database contains around 3,000 records of archaeological sites, findspots and historic buildings. These range from finds of mesolithic flints to 20th century street furniture. For the early period particularly notable is the large number of medieval moated sites, one of the densest concentrations in England. Given Wolverhampton and Walsall's location as the northern half of the Black Country, one of the earliest industrialised areas in the country, a particular feature is the number of records of 18th to 19th century industrial buildings. The record is still under development and will be strengthened over time. In particular only a small number of the records have an entry in the Summary section but these are gradually being compiled and added.
