Monument Types
- SUB CIRCULAR ENCLOSURE (Middle Iron Age to Late Roman - 400 BC? to 250 AD?)
Summary
In the late 1970s the enclosure's ditch survived to a depth of about a metre; pottery dating from the Middle Iron Age to the Roman period was found on the site during fieldwalking. Today it is only visible as a cropmark.
Additional Information
A shallow earthwork of sub-circular shape was found from the air by Jim Pickering in 1977.
Ridge and furrow ran up to, but not over, the earthworks.
The site was re-surveyed by RFH on 17/02/84.
It is presumably the same type as Grove Farm, Enderby.
<1> 1977-8, Transactions of the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society, Volume 53, Vol 53 (1977-8), p80-1 (Journal). SLE5951.
It was fieldwalked by MW and Miss Linford who found a scatter of Iron Age and Roman pottery starting perhaps in the Middle Iron Age and running up to 250-300 AD.
