Full description

Unbuttressed and unpinnacled west tower. Old wagon-roofs and box pews. Three-bay arcade between nave and north aisle, and fourth bay between chancel and chancel chapel (pevsner).

A series of carved oak bench ends depicting emblems of the passion are renaissance in style though at least one example of pure gothic remains (cresswell).

Poughill parish church, dedicated to st. Michael. Substantially restored in 1855-1856 (hoskins).

Small parish church. C13 origins, rebuilt in c15 with contemporary or slightly later north aisle, thoroughly restored 1855-6 and minor renovation work 1960-7. Walls of purple mudstone and volcanic trap employed in various styles at different times; volcanic ashlar, beerstone and bathstone details; slate roofs. Porch has ceiled wagon roof with moulded ribs and carved bosses, some of which may be c15. See doe list for full details (doe, 1985).
