4/24 Hoylake Railway Station, offices - and shop

Railway Station. 1938. By Architects' Section of office of W.K. Wallace, Chief Civil Engineer to L.M.S. Railway. Concrete frame with brick cladding, flat roof. Long one- storey range with round-ended projection to right. One storey, 10 bays, 3rd to 5th bays recessed, end bay forms round-ended projection. Overhanging roof becomes cantilevered canopy to station front, i.e. end 4 bays swept out in front of end bay and supported on column with simplified capital of horizontal grooves. Windows have iron frames with horizontal glazing bars; that to end bay carried round end, with top horizontal glazing bars, serving hatch to left return. Main entrance to 7th bay has flanking half- columns as above and fluted cornice; glazed doors, low drum above has 8 long windows. South facade to platform has deep cantilevered canopy and similar details, concrete structure visible. Entrace has doors flanking bowed kiosk. Interior has tiled hall with round light fixture to drum; bowed projection forming rear to kiosk. Influenced by Charles Holden's designs for London Transport Stations.
