Amphitheatre wall revealed during 1964 excavation. Cirnecester
County: Gloucestershire
District: COTSWOLD
Parish: CIRENCESTER
NGR: SP 02 01
Monument Number: 32455
HER 32455 DESCRIPTION:-
1964: The wall of the Amphitheatre was revealed during a 1964 escavation on the north-west side of the north-east entrance. The back of the north-west masonry wall was found at one point to abut against a dry-stone wall of the kind which, used in conjunction with timber supports, could have retained the seating bank of an earlier Ampitheatre. This could indicate that the masonry Amphitheatre could have been preceeded by a timber construction. {Source Work 858.}
