HER 969 AREA DESCRIPTION:-
A polygonal feature containing pottery dating from the 1st century was recorded during an excavation in 1985-6. The nature and function of this feature is unclear, it may be a structure that perhaps predates the Roman cemetery, but the excavation evidence is unclear. It bares comparison with a similar feature found during excavations on the Portway, south-east of Gloucester. Such features has previously been interpreted as shrines. {Source Work 13232}
