Full description
1. An archaeological watching brief carried out during an oil spill clear-up identified the remains of a stone paved surface. The paving formed part of an earlier approach to the main entrance to the house from the south that lay beneath the gravel surface. Following the clean-up, the surface was overlain with sand and gravel.
2. The approach is clearly visible on the Johannes Kip map of Wimpole Hall dated to 1707.
