Full description

Site of St Rumon's Medieval chapel, chapel was licensed in 1400 (b10). The site is recorded in the early C18 (b1) but described as "long in ruins" in 1745 (b10) - It was unroofed in 1730 but had been in use circa 1700. The site of a chapel is marked on the 1908 OS map. The checklist records no extant remains at this location but refers to various architectural fragments thought to derive from it (18064.01 - 18064.1), including a square pillar, arch fragment, window tracery and a pillar base or font pedestal, all at Murdoch House. Other stones said to be from the chapel are in the Bacon Factory yard, at SW 69764206, the garden of Laguna at SW 69694242, Bank House at SW 69684192, and in a wall west of the Royal Cinema, SW 69764200. (b9,b10, b12, b13)
The reference to "St Christopher" with St Rumon in the 1400 licence may indicate a separate chapel (18128). It is believed that this chapel was a sanctuary for pilgrims going to and from St. Michael's Mount (b11).
