Full description
Courtyard House III at Carn Euny is situated to the south-west of Courtyard House II (28920.11) which it adjoins. It compares in size with other enclosures with a diameter of less of 9.1m, with an entrance in the south-east 2.0m wide, but no definite rooms. Post holes round the west side indicate a timber structure within the wall supporting a roof. Paving existed on the north-east of the enclosure and over a gully in the main entrance (b1). The house which is one of the best preserved enclosures occupied mainly Phase IV. A fire reddened pit for cooking was uncovered and a quern, pottery and charcoal found. Also a curved piece of burnt clay beside a pit is thought to have been part of a structure which was possibly the forerunner of the Cornish cloam oven (h2, b1). The monument was included in the Schedule on 28/9/1934 and the scheduling was updated 18/3/1996.
