Full description
The remains of a possible courtyard house were noted here by Russell and Pool in the 1960s (b1) although field survey by the OS in 1960 and 1975 (h1, h2) did not find any extant remains of any such feature. Field notes and observations made from air photos by Weatherhill in 1982 suggested that extant remains of a courtyard house could be discerned at this location (h3, b3), although field survey by the CAU in 1985 did not find structural features and the spot was observed as being heavily overgrown as well as being the focus for stone dumping. It is conceivable that another detached courtyard house had once stood at this spot considering it is only 100m downslope from Chysauster village (36008) and lies just south-east of another detached courtyard house (36008.05). Only excavation would help clarify this (b4).
