Full description

The settlement and manor of Truthwall is first recorded as 'Treival' in the Domesday Survey of 1086 (b1). There are two entries in the Domesday Book: the first states that the manor was taken over by St Michael's Church after the Norman Conquest. Its entry says it had "land for 8 ploughs ... pasture 10 acres ... of these 2h the Count of Mortain took away 1h'. The second entry deals with the '1h' taken by the count. This had "land for 8 ploughs .. meadow 2 acres; pasture 60 acres" (b3). The name contains the early Cornish element tre 'estate', 'farmstead', followed by a personal name (b4). Truthwall is still occupied (b2).
