Full description
Tregothnan is the splendid mansion of the Earls of Falmouth, the Boscawen family. Of their C17 house, two rooms survive - the corner parlour with broad-banded plaster ceiling and wooden chimney piece, and the room above it with an earlier looking plaster ceiling and 1650-60 chimney piece. The C17 house was encased and enlarged 1816-18 by William Wilkins and in 1845-8 by Vulliamy. The C19 work is an elaborate East Anglian Tudor style with polygonal angle turretts and large mullioned and transomed windows. The interiors are mainly classical (b1).
