The settlement of Moresk is first recorded in 1086 when it is spelt "Moireis" (b1). The name is possibly derived from the French marais meaning 'marsh'. Moresk was a royal manor and fortified house. St Clement church (22622) was known as "Ecclesia de Moresc". There is said to have been a castle on the manor.
