Full description
On the south facing slopes of Truthwall Common at approximately 168m above OD are the remains of a probable ritual complex comprising two stone circles with an alleged third stone circle, now completely destroyed. Two standing stone circles have been planned by Cotton (b1), Buller (h1,b2), and Lukis and Borlase in the C19. The site has been more recently planned and recorded by the OS (h2, h3, h4, b11) and sketch surveyed by Sharpe in 1985 (h5, b12, b13). Barnatt suggests that the east/west alignments of the circles may have a "crude relationship with the equinoxes" (b11).
