Full description

Part of a large barrow group most of which is now destroyed (4666). A severely mutilated barrow which is a Scheduled Monument. It is shown on the OS maps of 1933, 1963 and 1974, and in 1952 the IAM recorded it as being 22.9m in diameter by 1.2m - 1.8m high, with only half to a third of it left of it left owing to a large segment being cut away for a putting green (h1). These crescentic remains were resurveyed at 1:2500 scale by the OS fieldworker in 1962 (h2). The top half of the round is covered by rough grass, the lower half, including the putting green area, is short grass (h3). This barrow is visible on vertical aerial photographs taken in 1951 (2), traces of the barrow are visible as cropmarks in the putting green. Analysis of lidar imagery shows a surviving earthwork approximately 24m in diameter and up to 1.4m high (3).
