Full description

The Northgate led from Launceston to Newport and St Stephens. It was similar to the surviving Southgate but only 10-12 ft (3-3.7m) deep (b1). There are medieval records of repairs (b2), and the gatehouse is depicted on a plan of 1764 (b3) and on early C19 drawings (b4). It was destroyed in 1832 (b1, b2).
