Full description
The name of the settlement of Kenketh is derived from Cornish 'kenkith', meaning 'imparked residence' (b1). This presumably implies the existence of a deer park here before circa 1250, when the place name is first recorded (b2). A deer park is not recorded here until the C18 (Pinsla Park - 2982.10), but the place name may provide evidence for its much earlier origin. The park would have been only a short distance S of Cardinham Castle (2958), with which it may have been associated.
