Full description
A group of hearths, possibly a 'working area', were found on the south side of the eastern summit of Carn Brea, outside the Neolithic ramparts. These features were revealed during Mercer's 1970-1973 excavations on site A2. He describes a gully c 0.5 m wide by 0.3m deep, and five shallow scoops 0.5m to 1.2m in diameter and up to 0.2m deep, filled with an organic silt, the pits containing much charcoal. Their dating and possible function as hearths not associated with structures, are discussed in detail (b1).
