Full description

The Old Rectory at St Columb is a C19 house, standing on the site of a moated medieval house which withstood an attack from rebel tinners in 1309 (1). The medieval house was rebuilt in the mid C19 and incorporates some fragments from the earlier building. The moat is approx 40m square and is intact. It is 2m wide and deep and fed by a leat from the northwest, and is kept clear of scrub; trenches dug for sewers in 1985 did not affect the moat (h2). The house, once a rectory, later became a hotel (h2), and is Listed, Grade II*.
