Full description

The section of granite wall extending from those fortifying the Garrison neck and Porthcressa coast (7906.04, 7906.15) round the south side of the Garrison to the inland of its west point at Steval battery (7904.19) was built between 1742 and 1750. Associated with it are two gateways or sallyports (7906.19, 7906.20), five redans (7906.21 - 7906.25), and the batteries known as Morning Point (7906.26), Woolpack (7906.27), Bartholomew (7906.28) and Colonel George Boscawen's (7906.29). A guardhouse and prison was built against its north end (7905.13). The site is a Listed Building, Grade I (h1). The monument is included in the Schedule.
