Full description

RAF Cleave was constructed in 1939 as an RAF and Army anti-aircraft co-operation unit. It was the site of a steam catapult (see PRN 70538.5) designed to launch remote-controlled seaplanes (Queen Bees). The site grew in size during the six years immediately after its construction, but was closed in November 1945. A signals station, CSOS Morwenstow, now occupies the central part of the site. (CSOS = Composite Signals Organisation Station.) NB: Defence of Britain Project numbers AH442 & AH140
