Full description
A grass airfield was in use at RAF Cleave. It ran from east to west, with a later, shorter strip running north-south (b1). Visible on 1942 RAF air photos (p1) are what appear to be large fenced structures; long narrow strips, some with chevrons; set out along the site of some of the original field boundaries. These are not visible in 1941 or 1946 photos. It is possible that they were not three-dimensional, but painted onto the strip to serve as landing guides.
