Full description

A medieval lighthouse known as 'st michael's chair' now stands at the top of the chapel tower, on st michael's mount. Hague describes it as a cresset lantern. He provides a reconstruction of the light, showing it to be a 5- sided masonry structure having glazed windows, with a reflector on one side. Light was provided by a rope wick dipped in a bowl of oil in the base. Hague records that the 'light of st michael' is mentioned in a will dated 1433 (b1).
