Full description

The cross now standing on the hedge between Sancreed churchyard and the new burial ground came originally from Anjarden (b1). The cross is 2ft 2in (0.66m) high, width of head 1ft 10.5in (0.57m), width of shaft 11.5in (0.29m), and thickness 5in (0.13m) (b2). It is round headed, with an equal arm cross in relief on each side (b3). One side has traces of beading (b1). The monument was included in the Schedule on 27/10/1967 and the scheduling updated on 12/11/1996.
During restoration works undertaken by the HES in 2004 (b9) Anjarden Cross was lifted from the hedge in which it had been set and placed in a new base in exactly the same location. The work revealed the fact that the cross, originally of 12th or 13th century date, may have been re-cut in the later part of the medieval period.
