Full description
The course of Lower Pengegon adit and the remains of a water wheel pit, possibly one of many wheel pits which are consider evidence of early mining in this area.
A shaft located NW of Wheal Harriet Shaft and approx 12m to the east of Miners Dry is likely to be an early feature of mining in this area. The shaft is approx 2m by 2.3m and follows a similar alignment to the stope. A series of horizontal planks, approx 2m, were noted. Excavation of the shaft revealed a stope, approx 1.5m by 1.3m wide running NE to SW, mirroring the main alignment of lodes in the area. It probably represents a working on Caunter Lode. The shaft was capped with a vent pipe.
The remains of an adit briefly explored in 1998 and excavated in 1999 which revealed two parallel running walls aligned approx north to south. Removal of the tunnel infill resulted in western wall collapsing. Running between the two walls was an approx 3m deep, by 1.5m wide channel or corridor. It was never roofed, did not originally have a blocked end and was essentially a 5m long section of masonry lined structure located within the adit and probably represents the remains of a waterwheel pit associated with early workings of Dolcoath mine. It is likely to have been one of several wheels located along the length of this and other adits and tunnels.
Just to the north of the wheelpit was an arch supported the roof of the 1m wide by 1.8m high adit (b1).
