Full description

OS maps of 1883 and 1907 show an earthwork at this location (b1, b2). The feature is no longer extant, but is visible on air photos (p1-p3). Early maps show an oval enclosure 50m north-south by 40m east-west, with a bank 8.0m wide. No ditch or entrance was indicated, perhaps suggesting that both were poorly defined. No part of the enclosure is now surveyable, though the farmer states that when the area is ploughed a heavy concentration of stone is encountered. On the ground, a slight gap in the vestigial bank, on the lower, west side may be the remains of an entrance (h1). The round is was plotted from aerial photographs (p3-p4) during the Cornwall NMP. Two gaps in the east and west sides may be the location of entrances. The OS 1st Edition map shows a number of buildings lying within the enclosure. These are described separately in 57261.
