<2> John Smith & Sons, 2007, Coventry: The Earlsdon Fountain Restoration Project (--PROJECT BRIEF). SCT2211.

The manufacturer was a company called George Smith & Company Limited, Sun Foundry of Port Dundas Road in Glasgow. The company began in 1858 and quickly expanded moving to Parliamentary Road in 1875 were they remained until 1896. An identical fountain is located in Harwich, suggested to be dated 1862, which suggests that is very much Victorian. It is suggested that perhaps the fountain was relocated around 1920.City Council records show that it was restored to some degree in the 1970s.

<3> English Heritage, 2017, List Entry Summary (---LIST OF BUILDINGS). SCT2284.

An octagonal structure sitting on a tapered plinth with a concave waist. There is a water bowl to the west and east faces, each with a brass water tap above, and there are also two openings at the base of the structure that serve as water basins for animals. The structure is topped by an ogee cupola with a gold-painted acorn finial and an embossed motif incorporating a fleur-de-lis to the north, east, south and west faces. The band below the cupola has decorative bolts at regular intervals that have been painted gold.
