Name:Relict strip field boundaries north of Buck's Barton

Summary

Two parallel relict field boundaries are visible as curvilinear earthwork banks on aerial photographs in the 1970s and on Lidar data captured in 2007. They are interpreted as the relict boundaries of former medieval strip fields, which became disused by the end of the nineteenth century. Earthwork remains are very likely to survive.

Two parallel relict field boundaries are visible as curvilinear earthwork banks on aerial photographs in the 1970s and on Lidar data captured in 2007. They are parallel to a removed field boundary depicted on the 1880s-1890s Ordnance Survey mapping and also visible as an earthwork bank on aerial photographs and Lidar images. They are interpreted as the relict boundaries of former strip fields and are probably medieval in date. Although they became disused by the end of the nineteenth century, earthwork remains are very likely to survive.
