Extensive parallel rows of structures are visible in the inter-tidal zone, roughly parallel to the shore at between 40 to 70 metres east and south of Horsey Island sea wall, on aerial photographs taken between 2001 and 2010. Three or in some cases four rows of structures are visible, approximately a metre apart from each other, in three main sections of up to 200 metres in length. Fewer are visible on the earlier run of aerial photographs, which initially lead to an interpretation that these have been eroding out of the foreshore in recent years. And could have been contemporary with, or post-date this mid nineteenth century embankment. They are similar in layout to the structures on the opposite side of the estuary, and were tentatively interpreted as revetting associated with the seawall or possible fishery structures. A site visit confirmed that these are in fact crab tiles.

Hegarty, C. & Knight, S., 2012-2013, North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme Project site visit, 19-FEB-2013 (Site Visit). SDV349357.

The rows of featurs are crab tiles, some are true ridge-shaped tiles and others upturned guttering.
