The groyne is visible as a structure.

The groyne is visible as a structure.

A possible groyne of modern date is visible as a structure on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the west of Sandridge. The groyne is visible to a length of approximately 54m and may have served to offer some degree of protection to the slipway to the southeast used for training purposes by the American military in preparation for the Normandy landings. The groyne remains visible as a structure on aerial photographs of 1951 and is not visible by 1989.
