A probable bandstand in Princess Gardens, is visible as a structure on aerial photographs taken in 1928, but not on Ordnance Survey maps dating to 1904-1906. It is similar in form to a structure on Paignton Green visible on the same run of aerial photographs and which is named as a bandstand on the 1930s Ordnance Survey mapping. The structure at Torquay is depicted on the 1930s mapping as three parallel lines, 17 metres long and covering 25 metres in width. It appears to have had a removable pitched roof, probably of canvas, as it is visible on some photographs as a covered structure, and on others as three linear structures, presumably the central ridge and two lower walls. Oblique aerial photographs show it to be open-fronted in 1928. It may have been removed during the Second World War, as nothing is visible in this location on aerial photographs between 1941 and 1944. However it seems to have been re-established after the war ended, and is visible as a similarly sized structure with covered front and a square building on the south side on aerial photographs taken in 1958. The structure is not visible on aerial photographs post-dating the 1950s, its disuse probably linked to the construction of the Princess Theatre in the late 1950s.
