HER Number:MDV105329
Name:Former Enclosure Boundary West of Churston Court

Summary

A probable curvilinear earthwork, visible on images derived from Lidar data captured in 2006, is likely to be a relict medieval boundary ditch. It is not visible on any of the available aerial photographs so is likely to be either very slight or a modern surface feature, and interpretation is therefore tentative.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2013-2014, South Devon Coast Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV351146.

A probable curvilinear earthwork, visible on images derived from Lidar data captured in 2006, is likely to be a relict boundary ditch. Its alignment and position fits into the field pattern depicted on the Tithe map, where it appears contiguous with the termination of several narrow curving enclosures of medieval character. However it is not depicted on the available historic mapping and its use probably predates the mid nineteenth century. It is not visible on any of the available aerial photographs so is likely to be either very slight or a result of contemporary land use when the data for the Lidar image was gathered. Interpretation is therefore tentative.
