Possible extraction pits of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of earthwork pit and banked features on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards and on digital images derived from LiDAR data captured between 1998-2012, to the west of Gulliford. The features include an elongated northeast to southwest aligned earthwork cutting or terrace, approximately 150m in length with flanking earthwork bank to the west and two sub-oval shaped earthwork pits, the northern of which is associated with an earthwork bank derived from up-cast material. A fourth possible sub-oval shaped earthwork pit is also visible to the south and which appears to be truncated by an extant field boundary. The possible clay or gravel extraction pits are located in an area characterised by similar such workings and remain visible as a series of earthwork pit and banked features on digital images derived from LiDAR data captured between 1998-2012.
