The site of the orchard is first depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards and on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2006, at Sowden Farm. The site of the orchard is first symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880's-90's. Aerial photographs of 1946, however, show that that the orchard trees have been largely grubbed out, although a series of parallel northwest to southeast aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, remain visible. The orchard banks occupy an area of approximately 0.13 hectares of gently north sloping land on the western side of Sowden Farm. They remain partly visible as a series of earthwork banks on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2006, although appear to have been largely levelled.
