The extraction pit appears to be depicted on the Exmouth parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48.

An extraction pit of probable post-medieval to modern date is depicted on the Exmouth parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48 and is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards and on digital images derived from LiDAR data captured between 1998-2012, to the east of South Lodge. The former extraction pit is sub-circular in shape and measures approximately 27m in diameter.
