Summary

19th century mapping shows that Waytown Farm formerly stood to the south of the present farmstead. The farmhouse appears to have been rebuilt in the early 20th century.

Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Waytown marked comprising an elongated cross-shaped building with the longer axis orientated north-south with another building orientated east-west to the east of its southern end. There is smaller building to the south and anorther rectangular buildng a little distance to the north. The apportionment records the site as a house, court and garden (plot 328) occupied by Thomas Luckett.

Waytown marked. Comparison with the Tithe map shows an additional building to the east but the smaller buildings to the north and south of the main farmstead have gone.

Comparison with the 1880s-1890s map shows the southern part of the original farmstead to have been demolished and a new farmhouse and outbuildings built to the north.
