A probable temporary water supply tank of Second World War date is visible as a circular structure on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, off Iona Avenue, Exmouth. The circular structure measures approximately 7m in diameter and is located within a residential area on the northern outskirts of Exmouth. It is probably a Second World War temporary water tank known as a EWS (Emergency Water Supply) reservoir. Emergency Water Supply reservoirs were normally constructed from 1941 to 1942 in areas where water supply was at risk of disruption due to air raids. At approximately 7m in diameter, it is smaller than most known Emergency Water Supply reservoirs, which elsewhere in the country appear to be between 10-12 metres in diameter. The water supply tank has been largely removed by 1947, although the possible remains of an earthwork embankment is visible along the southern edge of the former tank. By 1950 only a circular outline of flattened ground of the former tank remains visible and by 1960 the site has been completely cleared and redeveloped for housing.
