Four small earthwork pits 2 to 3 metres in size and roughly 10 metres apart, are visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s in a trapezoidal arrangement close to the coastal slopes in Jubilee Park, Budleigh Salterton. The precise role of the pits is unknown, but they were probably defensive in function, perhaps as gun pits for anti-aircraft use with such light machine guns such as the Bren or Lewis. The earthworks were probably quickly levelled following the end of the war and cannot be seen on aerial photographs of 1988.
