Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The extraction pit is symbolised as a possible pond on the Littleham parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48 and appears to predate an adjacent former field boundary depicted on the map.

An extraction pit of probable post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards and on digital images derived from LiDAR data captured between 1998-2012, to the north of Mountain Farm. The extraction pit is symbolised as a possible pond on the Littleham parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48 and appears to predate the adjacent field boundary which is depicted on this map. It is sub-oval in shape, measures approximately 34.5m in length by 27m in width and is located within an area dominated by similar such earthwork features. The former extraction pit remains visible as a shallow, mostly levelled, earthwork pit on digital images derived from LiDAR data captured between 1998-2012.
