An extraction pit of probable post-medieval date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the west of the former farmstead of Redgate. The former extraction pit is symbolised on the Withycombe Raleigh parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48, although the presence of a barn situated within the southern half of the earthwork pit suggests that it had gone out of use and been partly infilled by this time. It is semi-circular in shape, abuts a former field boundary along its eastern edge and measures approximately 44.5m in length by 26m in width. It is located within an area dominated by similar such earthwork features and remains visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1969, although has been completely levelled and the site developed for residential housing by 1979.
