Several temporary or ephemeral structures were visible within the boundary of Fort Number 3 at Berry Head, on aerial photographs taken in 1946. These included two small structures, circa 2.5 metres square, on two of the gun platforms at the southern end of the redoubt, and a low rectangular structure of 9 by 3.5 metres, possibly a concrete hut base, and a nearby pale area of 12 by 5 metres that may have been the site of a temporary building, in the northern terrace of the fort. Their function and date is not certain, but they may have been lookouts or ancilliary buildings associated with coastal defence during the Second World War. They are not visible on available aerial photographs taken after the 1940s, and the small square structures were probably removed fairly soon after the war. Any remains of the rectangular structure at SX9434456576 would have been quarried away by the late 1950s, and there are no visible remains of the rectangular feature at SX9432756555 on any of the later available aerial photographs.
