Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Maps and Apportionments (Website). SDV349463.

The site is listed as an orchard on the Bradninch parish tithe apportionment of approximately 1838-48.


Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The orchard appears to have passed out of use by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Shevishaies. The site of the orchard is first listed on the Bradninch parish tithe map apportionment of approximately 1838-48, although appears to have fallen out of use by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The orchard banks are northwest to southeast aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.21 hectares of northeast facing slope. The earthwork banks remain partly visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2002, although are not visible after this date.
