Field boundaries of probable medieval date were visible on aerial photographs of the 1960s and images derived from lidar data as shallow curvilinear earthwork ditches to the south and west of Middle Bolealler. Alongside a field boundary that remained in use into the mid-20th century, but was removed by 1967, the relict earthworks are probably evidence for a strip field system of medieval date. The earthworks were linked at their southern end by an additional, more irregular earthwork ditch, probably evidence of a further removed boundary or possible trackway. The earthwork ditches do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Tithe map for Cullompton or the Ordnance Survey first edition 25inch map of the 1880s-1890s. It is therefore probable that the boundaries had passed out of use prior to the 1840s.
