Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Farmstead shown on 19th century Tithe Map as T-shaped building with a rectangular building adjoining to the south and two buildings on either side of a small rectangular enclosure to the west. The Apportionment lists it as 'Lower Elford Town Farm'.

'Yelverton' shown on 19th century map as two groups of buildings on the east and west sides of an irregular shaped yard.

Yelverton is mentioned as 'Elleford' and 'Ellefordlak' in 1291 and 'Elverton' in 1765. 'Yelverton' is the dialectal form adopted by the Great Western Railway when the station was built in 1859.
