Description: Orchard house appears to date from the late 16th Century being a former 3 room through passage plan house. The orchard may date from this time. The orchard is the first view of the village of Halberton when entering the village from the east.

Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 2000 onwards, at Orchard Cottage. The site of the orchard is first symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The orchard banks are north to south aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.36 hectares of gentle south facing slope, within a single rectilinear shaped plot depicted on historical mapping. The orchard banks remain visible as a series of earthwork banks on digital images derived from Lidar data captured between 2005 and 2010.
