Full description

Burnaby, 1919, Untitled Source (Un-published). SDV345356.

This cross, in the fork of the Exbourne and Cliston Road is octagonal and tapering. Measurements given in feet and inches. A recess is cut into the back which now abuts the hedge. The cross is either in a new position or the site was formerly an open waste land.

Cross situated near the school at the cross roads west of the church. Masson Phillip's type B. A tall cross of octagonal section, the shaft tapering upwards.

Complete stone cross 8 feet high. Octagonal shaft and arms. Tapers slightly towards top.

Wayside Cross at Bulland Cross. The cross is complete and set into a hedge at the roadside. Basic Latin shape, 2.3 metres high with an octagonal shaft which is 0.43 metres wide at the base and tapers to 0.3 metres at the arms. The cross is 0.7 metres wide at the arms and 0.3 metres at the head. At the back of the cross and 0.33 metres from the head is a rectangular reces, 0.23 metres high, 0.1 metres wide and 0.06 metres deep. It is though to date to the 14th or 15th century and is of a type common to Devon.

Cross stands at the roadside, at the crossroads near the village hall of Sampford Courtnay, west of the church. A tall cross of octagonal section, the shaft of which tapers upwards.
