Monument Type(s) and Dates

  • HAMLET (XVI to Late 20th Century - 1501 AD to 2000 AD)

Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

'Hill' marked.

Keystone Historic Buildings Consultants, 1992, The Disused Cottage and Outbuildings at Hill Farm, Landkey, Devon, 9 (Report - Survey). SDV351609.

There were three separate holdings and presumably three separate houses at Hill, as there are today, as early as 1595, when a survey of the manor in the Bedford Estate Papers records three tenancies, all simply named Hill. The hamlet has thus remained intact, neither enlarged nor reduced in numbers of houses, for four centuries.

Ordnance Survey, 2011, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV346129.
