Waterhouse, R., Unknown, Dartmouth Conservation Area: Archaeology, 5 (Un-published). SDV355585.

A suburb of Dartmouth was created along the southern shore of Townstal Creek by 1286, possibly before 1243 with burgage tenements arranged along the south side of South Ford Road. As these partially fronted the creek is is possible that they predate the creation of the mill dam, the Foss, across the mouth of the creek.
