A possible quarry pit is visible as a large irregularly shaped earthwork, circa 35 by 70 metres, on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured between 2005 and 2010. The area is depicted as orchard on the historic mapping and may be a post-medieval quarry that fell out of use prior to the late 19th century. The subsequent use of the area as orchard may reflect the difficulty of farming substantial earthworks prior to the twentieth century.
